Tech Tip - Embed Pinterest Pins in Your Blog Posts

Today I'm here to show you how to embed Pinterest pins in your blog posts.

When using Blogger, make sure you are using html to compose your blog post.  You can easily switch to this from the compose option.

Copy the following code:
<a data-pin-do="embedPin" href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/INSERTNUMBERHERE/"></a>
<!-- Please call pinit.js only once per page -->
<script type="text/javascript" async src="//assets.pinterest.com/js/pinit.js"></script>

Insert all of that into your blog post.  Change INSERTNUMBERHERE to the number of the pin on Pinterest.

If you want to insert more than one pin, just insert the top line of code and change the INSERTNUMBERHERE to the pin number.  You only need the 2nd line of code one time in each post.

This is what it looks like when you embed a pin from Pinterest:

Movie Clip Monday - Compass Slide

My students were learning about cardinal directions in social studies recently.  I labeled the room with north, east, south, and west.  Then we practiced by dancing to the Compass Slide.  This video is just the song.  There aren't any lyrics or anything, but it is still good.  My students loved it!

After dancing to this, one student came up to me and asked if we could play Simon Says.  So then we played Simon Says using directions such as:
-point your toes east
-turn your body west
-look at the north
-point east and west

They loved it and had so much fun learning about cardinal directions!

Tech Tip - Change Default Favicon in Blogger

I have another tip for Blogger users today.

Do you have the default Blogger icon next to your blog name at the top of your browser window?

It looks like this...

It's the orange B that is shown on most blogs.  Do you want yours to stand out?  Follow these directions to add a customized icon.

First, make sure you have an icon saved in a convenient place.  It needs to be square and less than 100 KB. Once you have that, you can follow these simple directions.

A new window will pop up for you to upload your custom icon.

You need to make sure you save your settings, so don't skip the next step.

Now it looks like this...

Movie Clip Monday - Schoolhouse Rock - Adjectives and Adverbs

Last week, I taught my students about adjectives and adverbs.  We watched these Schoolhouse Rock videos to kick off our lessons.

After watching the adjectives video, my students worked in their table groups to describe objects using as many adjectives as they could.

After watching the adverb video, my students were given sentences with missing adverbs and had to come up with words that would make sense in the sentences.

As a final activity for this standard, my students created a silly story similar to mad libs where they had to fill in missing adjectives and adverbs.  They loved it!

Movie Clip Monday - Keep Moving Forward!

It's important for students to learn that making mistakes is ok. I know I learn more from making mistakes than from not making mistakes. This video clip is perfect to show near the beginning of the year to help students feel comfortable about making mistakes.

Tech Tip Tuesday - Change Time Zone in Blogger

Today's tech tip is for Blogger users.  I realized recently a problem that could occur when scheduling posts using Blogger's scheduler.  If your time zone is not set up correctly, your posts could be publishing incorrectly even if you set the correct time.

If this is happening to you, I'm here to save the day!  Haha, or I'm here to make your life easier.

Just follow these 3 easy steps and you'll be able to schedule your posts without worrying you have it set up wrong!

After you log in, click on settings at the bottom.

Then click on Language and Formatting.  Language options will be at the top and the formatting options are at the bottom.

Under formatting, you can change your time zone.  If it is incorrect, click on it and scroll through the options until you find the correct one.

While you're there, you can also change the way the date is displayed on your blog.

When you finish making changes, make sure you go back up to the upper right corner and click on the orange save settings button.  If you don't, your time zone still won't be right!

Do you have any other Blogger tricks to share?
