New Year's Linky Party

I'm linking up with Susan from Passion in Portable Land to bring you this New Year's Linky.
2014 was a good one!  I know I'll remember it most by the year I got engaged!  We've been engaged since April, so most of our time this year has been wedding planning.

Lots of other things happened - turned 30, became an aunt for the 2nd time, sprained my ankle twice, went to Orioles playoff games, and started my 7th year of teaching.

I thoroughly enjoyed this year, but I know my best years are still to come.
I could list all the things that many people do - go to the gym more, eat better, etc.

But I think my one resolution that I want to stick to all year long is just enjoy life and find something to make me laugh every single day.  I've been reminded that life is short and I want to cherish it as much as I can.

I'm not going to wait until Thursday to start my resolution.  I'm starting today!  I hope you will join me in this journey of laughter.  Maybe you can share your laughter with us.  Who knows, maybe you'll bring laughter to someone else!

Now, go view the other posts in this linky.  Have a wonderful day!  Make sure you find something to laugh about.

Sunday Scoop Winter Break Style (12/28)

Happy Sunday!  I almost forgot about the Sunday Scoop because it doesn't feel like Sunday.  So glad to be on winter break.  One more week of glorious relaxation!

My fiance and I are going cake tasting on Tuesday!  Cannot wait!  We were asked to bring pictures of styles of cakes that we like.  Need to search on Pinterest to find what we like.  We don't have something in mind already and we aren't very picky.

I feel like wedding planning has taken a backseat to everything else going on in my life.  Luckily most of the big stuff is done, but I still want to look at our checklist on The Knot to see what else we should be thinking about right now.  7.5 months are going to fly by!

Today is the last day of the regular season for the NFL.  I've been participating in a pick em league all season and I'm currently tied for 2nd place overall.  I'd love to stay there (or better) so I'll be watching all afternoon to find out!

We were so spoiled by our families this year and the gifts are all piled under the tree.  By under, I mean, spread out into the middle of our living room.  I'd love to get most of the presents put away so we can get our living room back.

I need to get my January word problems published soon so teachers have those to choose from when going back to school in the new year.  I hope to make a dent in those products today.

My fiance's dental procedure was pushed back to Friday.  So he's still recovering and I'm playing doctor.  He's being such a good patient, so I don't mind waiting on him until he's off his pain meds and feels well enough to move from the couch.

I hope you have an awesome Sunday and enjoy your time off!

Sunday Scoop - 12/21

Happy Sunday!  Last Sunday before Christmas!  Where has 2014 gone???

For everyone who has started winter break already - I'm jealous!  My last day is Tuesday.  We're having a school-wide pajama day, which will be fun.  All day we have fun pajama activities planned, including pajama math.  I still need to write pajama word problems for our PowerPoint.  I need to get that done today.

I have a substitute tomorrow because I have to take my fiance to get 2 teeth pulled.  I'm missing a fun winter day with holiday rotations.  I certainly hope everything goes well!  I hope to start planning for after break so I can relax for much of it.  If I can't get to it today, I should be able to tomorrow in between playing nurse.

This is the 3rd Christmas that my fiance and I will have been together.  Each year we find a new craft on Pinterest to make as presents for our families.  We bought materials for this year's gift awhile ago but we've been so busy and haven't had time to make it.  If we don't do it today, we will run out of time!

Hope you enjoy your Sunday, whether it is preparing for a few more days of school before break or it's relaxing during break.

How are you spending your day?

Tech Tip Tuesday - Install Fonts

If you want to join the linky, grab the Tech Tip Tuesday button.  Post about a technology tip.  Then link up below!

Click {here} to fill out my form if you are interested in helping me improve my tech tips.

Have you downloaded some new fonts and you want to know how to use them on your computer?  I'm here to teach you that today!

First thing you need to do is make sure you've downloaded a font.  It can be from TpT or it can be from somewhere else on the web.  There are plenty of free fonts that you can use in commercial products on TpT.  Just search for free commercial font or click on my link that will take you directly to that search page.

Pick a font that you want to download or look for a previously downloaded file on you computer.

For this post, I downloaded one of the files on the first search page.  Open the folder with all the downloaded files.  Find the file that says TrueType font file.  Double click on it to open the font.

You will see what the font looks like for each character and you will see it in different sizes.

Look at the top of that window for the button that says install.

Click on that button.  A window will pop up that says installing.  Once you click install, the button no longer works to click on.

Now that it's installed, you need to make sure PowerPoint or Word is closed.  If you have it open, close it or the font won't show up in your options.

Open up PowerPoint or Word.  You can see in my picture below that my font is my default font.

Make sure you have clicked on the text box.  The font will appear in the font box.  Click on the font and scroll until you find the font that you have installed.  When you scroll over the font, it changes so you can preview it without actually clicking.  Once you decide on the font you want to use, just click on it.

Now you know how to install fonts on your computer.  There is a way to set up font groups so you don't have to constantly scroll through all the fonts to find the ones you like and want to use frequently.  Look for this in another tech tip.

What are your favorite free fonts to use in commercial products?

Sunday Scoop - 12/14

Happy Sunday!  I'm back again with my Sunday Scoop.

We had people over for an ugly sweater party last night.  We cleaned up most things before we went to bed last night, but still have some more things to put away.

I had a very long week at work, so I wasn't able to get any planning done for this coming week.  Have to take care of that and grading today.

I would love to write a few more blog posts today, but we'll see if that happens.  I need to start wrapping my presents so I can see what I've bought and what I still need to buy.  Gifts are still in bags and boxes and I can't remember what I bought!

It's been a crazy week and I'm happy to not have to go anywhere.  A day in pajamas is a perfect way to spend a Sunday.  Hope you have an awesome day!

Freebie Friday - Holly Jolly Bump

Yay for Friday!  Today's freebie is brought to you by Carla Hoff.  You need to go download her Holly Jolly Bump freebie right now!  It looks like such a fun game to play right before break!  It's also really easy.  No prep needed.  Just print, find some dice and play!

Here is one of the games from her freebie.  The freebie also includes directions on how to play.

Here is the description from her product page:

These Christmas-themed bump games are a fun way for partners to practice math facts during the holiday season! Choose Santa’s Hat Bump! for children working on addition fluency, or Christmas Tree Bump! for children working on multiplication. Color and black & white versions of both game boards are included in this freebie, my Christmas gift to you and your students!

To play: Partners take turns rolling two dice, and then add (or multiply, depending on which game they’re playing) the two numbers rolled. Players cover the answer on the game board with a linker cube or unifix cube, knocking off their opponent’s cubes whenever possible, and doubling up on their own cubes to form a block. The first player to use all of his/her cubes is the winner!

My students love bump games, and I love how much math practice they get while playing!
