winter break products including a freebie! (and a blog follower freebie)

After posting my 13 in 13 last night, I realized a lot has happened this year!  I am so grateful that I found TpT.  It has improved the resources that I've created and I've been able to find and use so many other great resources from other teachers.  I am loving every bit of this journey!

I want to highlight a few of my new products that I was able to create over winter break.

The first product was Telling Time to the Quarter Hour Bingo.  I was so proud of this product!  We will be reviewing time when we get back to school after break and I cannot wait to play the game with my students!  I'm sure the other teachers on my team will love this as well.  There are 25 different boards, so everyone can play using a different board.

http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Long-Vowel-Puzzles-A-E-I-O-U-Center-Activity-1029757After I made this bingo game, I asked for suggestions from my Facebook followers.  I got a great idea (which turned into a few products) from one teacher.  I created long vowel sounds puzzles.  Students will match the pictures to other pictures that have the same long vowel spelling pattern.  There are 18 different puzzles for the students to complete.  I also created a follow-up activity for each vowel.  Students cut out the words and match the words to the correct vowel pattern.  This will be perfect for my below grade level students!  I should probably spend time tomorrow getting these ready for use when we go back to school.

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BwyJ9wFepF8eSHJSMUQzX2dIbm8/editWhile making the puzzles, I realized I could use the same words and make bingo games out of the words.  I got to work and was able to finish 5 different games.  I bundled the games and they sell for 40% the price of buying each game separately.  You can get the Vowel Sounds Long E Bingo for free by clicking on the picture.  You can purchase the bundle, which will give you the other 4 games for the price of 3 by clicking on the bundle picture.  It'll take you to my TpT store.

http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Freebie-Snowman-Sledding-Number-Lines-Fill-in-Missing-Number-1036330Finally, I purchased Krista Wallden's Creative Clip Club for January.  She posted the graphics for the first week early and I wanted to make something right away!  I created number lines where the students fill in the missing number.  My students need a lot of practice with this concept.  Many of them want to draw their own lines and count to figure out what number goes in the box.  Hopefully this will help them think about what is halfway between the two endpoints.  Since I have students with different levels of understanding, I created 3 different versions.  Each way has a different degree of difficulty.  You can download this product for free from my store by clicking on the cover.

Wow!  I've had a busy break!  I can't believe how many products I made!

I'm off to celebrate New Year's Eve at a friend's house.  Looking forward to 2014!  Happy New Year Everyone!

What are you looking forward to during 2014?

13 in 13

I'm joining in on the Thirteen in 13 Linky Party.  It is hosted by Miss Kindergarten, a teeny tiny teacher, and Dragonflies in first.  So excited to highlight 13 things from my year!

1.  Lots of renovations to my house.  I got blinds in the kitchen, a new storm door, a garden, and had to completely re-do the basement after my sump pump stopped working and flooded the basement.

2.  First Valentine's Day with my boyfriend.  I had to work late on Valentine's Day because it was conferences.  Chris brought me dinner and we celebrated the following day.  My present was a fondue pot, so we made cheese fondue.  I baked him the heart cake.  It was a wonderful day!

3.  Maryland beat Duke!  It would turn out to be the last time Duke would visit Comcast Center since the Terps are leaving the ACC.  Very exciting game!

4.  Chris and his dog moved in unofficially during March.  Unfortunately, I don't have a picture to show this, but I needed to highlight it.  It was a very big moment during 2013!

5.  My 29th birthday was spent at O's Opening Day!  It was a very exciting game.  Chris Davis hit a grand slam to win the game!  I was so happy to be there!

6.  I flew to California over Memorial Day weekend to go to a family friend's wedding.  It was my first time in California and I loved it!  San Diego was amazing and it was a beautiful wedding.  I had to leave Chris at home, but he took care of the house for me!

7.  In June, Chris was in his best friend's wedding.  It was a hot day, but another beautiful wedding!  This picture is from the rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding.

8.  July was an emotional month.  I finished my last grad class and my portfolio to officially finish my grad program.  The day after I submitted my portfolio, Chris' dad died.  I was able to spend the whole week with him and his family.  The month ended on a happy note because I found out I officially passed my internship and thus, I was done with grad school!  This is a picture of the cake my professor made to celebrate the end of the program.

9.  In August, I started my Teachers Pay Teachers store and this blog.  I also went back to work.  I started my 6th year of teaching.  I moved back to 2nd grade after spending the 2012-2013 school year teaching 5th grade.  I am out in a portable this year.  It took awhile to figure out how to set up my space, but I did it!

10.  September was spent going to O's games and Terps games.  With the help of my mom, we threw a baby shower for my sister.  It was a wonderful day celebrating baby Brayden and his mom.  We were all anxiously awaiting his arrival.  This is a picture of my mom, sister, me, and my dad at the baby shower.

11.  October was a busy month!  The month started with my cousin's wedding.  It was on the water and a warm day!  This picture makes it seem like summer, but it was definitely the first weekend in October!  The basement flooded during the middle of the month.  Thankfully I was covered by insurance so the damage wasn't too bad!  A week or so later, my nephew was born!  I love being an aunt!

12.  November is always a crazy month between report cards, American Education Week, and conferences, I'm ready when Thanksgiving rolls around.  This year, it was late, so November felt like a really long month!  Chris and I celebrated our first anniversary!  We went to Melting Pot the day after.  This picture is from Melting Pot.  Our waiter wanted to help us celebrate!

13.  That brings me to 13!  Somehow, I fit 12 months into 13 different things.  December was a fun month.  Chris and I started new traditions for Christmas.  My favorite things were getting a present from Brayden and the Chris and Cheryl ornament from Chris' mom.

I know I missed some things, but it was hard to only pick 13 things!  I am looking forward to 2014!  It's going to be a great year!

winter break!

Hope everyone has been enjoying the holidays and time off from school!  I definitely am.  I've been using my time in a few ways.  I've started organizing my house.  We finally have our basement back after the flood!  I'm so excited about the new space and getting the rest of my house back together.

I spent lots of time with family and my boyfriend.  He's been off work since Christmas and is enjoying his first paid vacation ever.  It is nice to have time off at the same time!

The rest of my break has been spent creating products.  I'll let you check out my store for all those new products.  Let me know if you find something you like!  If you comment about your favorite product between now and 11:30pm EST on New Years Eve, I'll pick a random winner to win that item.

Now on to a new feature on my blog.  If you click on the tab at the top that says Tech Resources, you will see technology resources that I have found (only one so far).  I also made it so others can link to their resources.  If you have a technology resource (on a blog or a free product), please share it with us!

How has your winter break been?  What have you done?

Snowman Activities

Friday (the day before winter break) was Snowman Day in my classroom.  We had fun making different snowman crafts and enjoyed a snowman snack.

The first activity we did was name snowmen.  The students cut out snowballs (one for each letter in their name).  They glued the snowballs to blue paper to look like a snowman.  Then they decorated the snowman.

The students also made melted snowmen. I gave them a small white paper bowl. They turned it upside down and glued it on a piece of white paper cut to look like a puddle. They decorated the face and the puddle to look like a melted snowman.

After the crafts, we had our snowman snack. Unfortunately, I was not able to take any pictures of the snack because it was crazy trying to pass out all the materials. I should have spent time putting things together earlier.

Anyway, I gave each student 3 small white donuts.  Then they got 2 pretzel sticks to use as the arms.  I gave them 4 Skittles (2 for the eyes and 2 for buttons).  They built their snowman and then got to eat it.  I'm sad I don't have pictures to share.

It was a fun way to end school before winter break.  I hope you are enjoying your winter break!  I know I am liking all the free time to do what I want to do and not doing things for school!

Tech Tip Tuesday - 12/17

I'm back with your next Tech Tip Tuesday!

There are many websites out there with resources for teachers.  One website I have explored is Toon University.  This site links to other sites with worksheets and games based on grade level and concept.  You have to be careful because I found some broken links and some of the resources are members only.  With that being said, there are some good ones that are free.

Here is the list of second grade math concepts.  Many of them are members only, but there are a few free ones.

One game that I found is a coin counting machine.  This will be perfect for my 2nd grade students when we start to count coins up to one dollar.  The students are given a price and they have to drag the coins to make the price.  Once they are close to the price, they cannot drag an incorrect coin to the slide.  This is helpful because it won't let students submit the wrong answer.  They have to figure out what coin will make the correct answer.

What other resources do you have for counting coins?

I am taking the next 2 weeks off from posting a Tech Tip to focus on the holidays with my family.  So check back on January 7th for the next Tech Tip Tuesday!

Winter Blog Hop

Welcome to Techie Turtle Teacher.  You have arrived at stop #1!

At each stop you will be gathering a winter freebie from our TpT stores.  We ask that you leave feedback on our stores if you like our freebies.  If you get lost along the way, you can check out the links at the bottom of this post.

The hop is set up in a loop, so you can start wherever you would like.  If you want to start at the beginning, check out Techie Turtle Teacher for the first stop.

Students in grade 2 need to practice their math facts.  This is a fun way to review the different subtraction strategies.  Students can practice matching up snowballs to make snowmen with correct facts.  After they practice, they can complete the worksheet.  The worksheet can be used as classwork, homework, a quiz, or in any other way you can think of.  There is an answer key included!

This activity will be part of a larger bundle with individual strategies that will be posted soon.  Each individual strategy is posted as a separate product.  Follow my store so you are the first one to know when the new products are posted!

Click here or click on the picture of the cover to get your freebie!  Please leave feedback after you download!

Thank you for stopping by my blog and downloading the freebie.  I hope you’ll be able to use my product in your classroom.  If you would like to know when I post new products and ideas, please follow my blog on bloglovin.

Now, skate on over to Pro Student Teacher for your next stop on the blog hop.  Unfortunately stop #2 dropped out too late to make changes to all the numbers.  You will be looking for stop #3.  Sorry for any confusion!

Note:  If you are seeing this post after the blog hop is over, my product will no longer be free on my store after 8pm EST on December 15, 2013 December 16, 2013.  It will still be available to purchase if you are interested.

Introducing Tech Tip Tuesdays

Tech Tip Tuesdays are here!  (Thanks to 2 snow days in a row, I came up with this idea!)  Each week, I will provide you with a different technology tip or tool to use in your classroom.  I'm going to start off posting ideas that I discussed in my grad school program.  I created a blog for one of my courses and I'm going to post about some of those ideas.

My first tech tip is a website you can use to create presentations.  It used to be called Edcanvas, but it is now called Blendspace.  https://www.blendspace.com/

The layout is similar to Facebook pictures where you can comment on the side.  These presentations can include pictures, links, and videos.  I used it as a review tool for my students.  They read information or viewed a video about a geometry concept.  After reviewing the information, they answered practice problems using the website IXL.com.

If you want to see my presentation about 5th grade geometry, click here.

There are many different ways Blendspace can be used in the classroom.  If you have used it before, please comment and tell us about how you used it.  If you haven't used it before, how do you think you could use it in your classroom?  Be sure to tell us your grade level and/or content area!

I hope you enjoyed my first Tech Tip Tuesday.  If you have any specific questions about technology tips or tools, please post them here.  You might be featured in future posts!  Check back again next Tuesday for your next tip!

Snow Day!

I got my wish today! Schools were closed because of the snow and ice we got yesterday and overnight. We're supposed to get more snow in the early morning tomorrow. I wonder if we'll get another day off or even a delay. I'm enjoying the time off now, but I won't like it so much in June when we have to go extra days.

With my time off, I've been able to work on my build a snowman subtraction strategies. I hope to post the full bundle next week. Here are the strategies (including addition) that I have finished so far. One of them links to the product as a free download and the others are linked to the paid products on TpT. Good luck finding the free product!
